FAQ

Q1. Will students learn anything else besides forms?

Our students learn not only belt specific forms as well as kicking from basic kicks such as roundhouse to demonstration kicks such as 540′s and more. Our students learn weapons training (nunchuks and escrima sticks) – self defense techniques that include wrist releases and take downs. They also learn how to spar and everything that entails from foot work drills, kicks and mind training. All of these skills are included in our taekwondo lessons with no extra training cost.

Q2. How long does it typically take to become a black belt?

Typically to attain a black belt it takes about 3 years.  However with hard work, practice and training it can take less.

Our black belts are all Kukkiwon certified (TKD headquarters in Korea).  Our black belts will receive a black belt number, certificate and card and are recognized world wide as a black belt for the rest of their lives.

Q3. Will students automatically receive their next belt level after a certain period of attendance?

Yes and no.  While a certain amount of attendance is required to get to the next belt level – it will not automatically be given.  There are requirements to testing that involve their form, knowledge, kicks and manner (behavior).

Our school firmly believes that nothing in life is handed to you – especially a belt!  You must work hard, be disciplined and focused in order to attain your goals.  This concept is extremely important to us.  This is one of the many principles our students carry forth in life -work hard – persevere and you can achieve anything!

Q4. Are parents/guests allowed to watch the classes?

Absolutely!  We just ask that you not instruct your child or talk to them while they are on the matt.

Q5. What is the instructor to child ratio?

Because we have a flexible schedule and leave the students to choose what training days fit in their schedule, the ratio is hard to determine.  What we do pride ourselves on is that we NEVER have just one black belt instructor on the matt (of course, emergencies due occur).

A typical class will have one head instructor and at least 3 black belt instructors or teacher assistants on the matt.  This is extremely helpful when we break up into groups according to rank.  This makes for a more individual training session for our students.

Q6. Can a parent and child train together?

Absolutely!  Our Family class encompasses all age groups that consists of parent/child, sibling/sibling of different age levels as well as beginners from Pee Wee to Adult.  We believe “The family that kicks together – sticks together!”
